The Journey to Conciseness...
When I reflect that what I’ve always been aiming for, to be fully aware in life, not only understanding what the true meaning of this world is, but fully BEING, being there in every moment.
So far in my life journey I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with many people. In all our efforts that’s what most are seeking a form of shall we say peace, happiness and joy. How wonderful it would Be to live in every moment, accepting any situation ‘Positive’ or ‘Negative’ knowing that what ever happens is meant to Be, trusting the journey of life.
I always have been naturally drawn to wanting to help all living beings. While at college I enrolled to study British Sign Language for 2 years and began volunteering as a Support Worker helping deaf and hearing impaired children with their homework. This was an amazing experience which inspired me to expand my knowledge to really make a lasting impact in the community.
I chose to study Community Development and Public Policies at Birbeck Evening University, I could then work full time at a local Dental Practice where I had the opportunity to complete four apprenticeships; Customer Service and Business Administration level 2 and 3. While completing the 4th qualification the company I was training with gave me the opportunity to work with them as a Tutor/Assessor, I was over the moon! I completed my Assessor qualification and was out in the community delivering training in all sectors. I stayed in this role for 5 years with 3 different companies and acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Over time I noticed one similar factor majority of my students expressed how they was not happy in their job, wishing they was doing something else, not feeling fulfilled. Over time this made me reflect... was this the job I really wanted to do? Was I fulfilled? I was coaching and mentoring my students every day, but was I giving myself the same advice? The role was 100mph, I worked long hours and sometimes into my weekends to meet targets, my work life balance had vanished and was feeling run down, unable to even comprehend living in the present moment. I kept telling myself I should be grateful for what I have, but the realisation set in that I can still follow my dreams.
I decided Yes let’s do this! I had been practising Mindfulness, Mediation and Yoga for years. They say the biggest blessing come out of pain, well in my case that was true. In my late teens and early 20s I had anxiety and depression within me which was accompanied with anorexia and bulimia. It was testing times, but this really allowed me to dig deep and search for the meaning of life. I became fascinated with the mind, body and soul, reading books, going to events, attending appointments with professionals and spiritual teachers.
Over a period of 5 years I built myself back up even stronger than I ever thought. Along the way I accumulated a whole lot of tools in my life tool box to pull out when needed (and the tool box is always getting bigger! )
In this time I was also working and volunteering for my brothers company Activ8 Fitness Camp. One service we delivered at the time was Family Boot Camps, this gave me the inspiration to complete my Fitness Instructor Award and Boxing Coaching Award. Who knew what the company was going to grow to, now an award winning company where we deliver services in a range of schools, nurseries and community centres. Please see website to find out more
Going back a little... So I handed in my notice in as a Tutor when I landed a 9-5 where I wouldn’t have to take work home with me as an Assistant Accountant. I enrolled on my Yoga Teacher Training for 1 year... I was super excited ! Let’s just say accounts was not my area, I ended up without a job for the first time in my life. It was an odd scary place to be, but at the same time liberating. I signed up to an agency and began working in schools doing admin, until I got a perm job as a receptionist.
It was the month of Ramadan 2018 and I was 3/4 through my Yoga Teaching Training, I was studying over Barking Park and needed to pray, so headed to the closest mosque Al Medina. I was warmly welcomed, the Mosque was busy during this month so another section for prayer was organised in their sports hall, I prayed.. then relised this would be the perfect place to start my classes, it was beautiful lots of natural light and a big sky window, where you can see the clouds floating by. I went straight down and ask in the office, and they were more than happy for me to teach there! This was it... my visions coming into reality, this was the beginning of the Mindful Movement Classes which I’m still teaching there today.
In 2019 I completed my Kids Yoga Teacher training and began running Mamma & Kid classes at the Mosque also. At the same time still working with Activ8 helping with events and classes. A great opportunity to teach teenagers in a Mainstream school in Stratford, followed by another opportunity teaching in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school children 11-16, which I still do today. Most recently in 2020 I completed my Sensory Processing Yoga course. The joy that comes from being able to help give children tools that will aid them now and for the rest of their life’s, I feel so grateful!
Little did I know the vast amount that went on at Al Media Mosque, one day in 2019 I received a message from Ash the Secretary asking if I would like to be on a voluntary management team for a new project, the setting up and running of a women’s centre which is now known as The Hive. Ash was asking women from different professions such as social workers, barristers and Councillors to build a strong team to support the women in the community.
I am so happy to be a part of this project working alongside amazing women to support more amazing women. Now an award winning women’s service ! We run regular events, projects and classes. Here’s the website to find out more
That brings me to today, beginning to expand my online presence to reach out to more people. I feel so blessed to have been on this journey and can’t wait to share more.
Sending my Love Rebecca xxx
